Why I’m Raising Money for SickKids
Hi, my name is Kye, and I’m raising money for SickKids because they saved my life.
When I was 6 years old, I was playing with my dad and my little brother, Cole. I fell backwards and hit my head on the tile floor. I passed out, and when I woke up, I was vomiting and feeling really dizzy.
My Dad took me to SickKids, where the doctors did a CT scan and discovered that I had a skull fracture and a blood clot in my brain. I needed emergency brain surgery that same day.
The surgery took about six hours. The doctors were able to remove the blood clot before it caused permanent damage to my brain.
I spent about a week at SickKids recovering. I don’t remember everything from that time because I was so young, but I know how much the doctors, nurses, therapists, and everyone at SickKids did for me and my family. After surgery, I also had to work hard at physical therapy to get stronger again.
Because of SickKids, I got to go home. I got to go back to school, play with my little brother, spend time with my family, play sports, and do all the normal things that I probably took for granted when I was younger.
Now that I’m older, I understand more about what happened to me and how lucky I was.
That’s why I want to raise money for SickKids.
I want to help other kids who are sick or injured get the same kind of care that I received. I want them to be able to recover, go home, see their friends, play sports, go back to school, and just be kids again.
SickKids gave me that chance.
Now I want to do something to give back.
Thank you for supporting my fundraiser. It really means a lot to me.
