In Loving Memory of Scottie-Lynn Stewart
Funds raised through this donation page will support a room revitalization on the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children. With your support, funds raised will help to redesign this room with the intention to provide a comforting space for families.
The fundraising goal for the room revitalization is $24,500. All donations made beyond this will support the highest-priority needs of SickKids, which can include research labs, life-saving medical equipment, and patient-family programs.

During our six-week stay at SickKids, we were overwhelmed and deeply grateful for the incredible love and support that surrounded us. Family cared for our two other children. Friends helped with babysitting, walked our dogs, brought meals, and checked in on us. Our community even came together to support our initial GoFundMe, helping us navigate the unexpected costs that followed Scottie’s passing.
Because Scottie spent her entire, all-too-short life in the hospital, the medical teams caring for her became like family. They celebrated every one of her victories with us and held us through the moments when things became unbearably difficult.
Throughout our time in the CCCU, however, we noticed something that stayed with us: there is very little privacy.
And understandably so. Every available space is needed for medical equipment, medications, supplies, and, most importantly, patient care.
But after Scottie’s cardiac arrest, we experienced firsthand what that lack of privacy can mean for a family receiving devastating news.
We collapsed in hallways. We cried in ward rooms. We made heartbreaking phone calls from waiting rooms. We had conversations that changed our lives while surrounded by the sounds and activity of a busy hospital floor.
After we left the hospital without Scottie, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
In the hardest moments of a family’s life, privacy should not be a luxury. It should be a standard.
And from that thought, the idea for a private Family Comfort Suite was born.
This space will not fix a parent’s broken heart. It cannot change the news they have just received or take away the pain of losing a child.
But I hope it can offer something small and meaningful: a quiet, private place to breathe. To cry. To talk. To process. To make difficult phone calls. To have hard conversations. To simply be together—away from the public’s ears and the activity of the hospital floor.
We hope to create a space where families can have privacy during some of the most difficult moments they will ever experience.
Sweet Scottie, we miss you every minute of every day. There will never be a reason great enough for why you aren’t here with us.
But from this heartbreak, and from everything we learned during your short and extraordinary life, we hope to create a legacy that makes someone else’s journey just a little more bearable.

I love this idea! When we were told that my daughter had a rare cancer and they had no record of a child in canada at the time with renal sarcoma. The team would be reaching out to other countries for treatment options and when we were told she would never have children due to the side effects of the treatments they we're going to try, we were in a boardroom surrounded by specialist. Our next stop was the hallway then my daughters room to process the news .
