Help Us Celebrate Our Mighty Miss Maya
We are officially kicking off Retinoblastoma fundraising in honour of Maya with our first annual A Mile for Maya walk ahead of RB Awareness Week (May 10-16, 2026).
Maya was diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma at five months. With a team of incredible ophthalmology and oncology doctors and nurses guiding us through treatment and with Maya's tenacity, she is enjoying a full life with good vision.
Living with this diagnosis (versus it being a fluke cancer cell in one eye) means she carries a defect on her RB1 gene, a tumour suppressor gene, that puts her at higher risk of several other cancers at different developmental stages. So, check-ins with her SickKids doctors will be a part her way of life.
Please join us in celebrating our strong, resilient girl, and raising money to support RB research and Maya's amazing SickKids team.

2026: First Annual A Mile for Maya
Thursday 14th MayMay 10-16 is Retinoblastoma Awareness Week. In the spirit of celebrating our Mighty Miss Maya, spreading awareness and raising money for RB research, leading up to that week, we hosted an informal walk around a local park for our Toronto friends and neighbors on May 9. If you didn't join us from near or far on Saturday, we encourage you to walk a mile in your neighbourhood.
P.S. An update if we haven't spoken recently: Maya is doing great! She's thriving at school and showcasing her intelligent, silly, sporty personality. Her eye exams have been going well; As of now, she is being seen for an exam under anesthesia every 8-10 weeks (next one is end of May) and there has been no new tumor growth so she has not needed any treatment. We hope this exam week window continues to grow slowly but surely until it is only once a year. And for now, her vision seems unaffected—you should see how well she can throw and catch a ball!
