$1,000,000 Goal

Over the past 16 years, we have raised funds and awareness for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an aggressive form of childhood cancer that forms in the brainstem. We have raised funds through community events, our family, friends and through an initiative called Bettersocks. Bettersocks is inspired by the patients and families of SickKids. Every sock tells a story.

In 2007, our son Daniel Bertoia was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 16 and began receiving treatment. With the help of family and friends, we organized the first Skate With Daniel event to show support for Daniel. Daniel was able to play that day and scored the winning goal. Through the generosity of the Skate With Daniel community, we have raised over $800,000 of our $1,000,000 goal.

This year marks 18 years since Daniel’s diagnosis.

SickKids in collaboration with Sunnybrook launched the world’s first clinical trial to deliver chemotherapy to pediatric brain tumors using MRI-guided focused ultrasound.

Your support of DIPG research helped enable this incredible advancement. Help us keep the momentum going and remember Daniel and all the other children and families impacted by brain tumors.
