V's 4th Annual Lemonade Stand

Hi! My name is Vera and I’m 9 years old. This is my 4th annual Lemonade Stand fundraiser for SickKids!

When I was 4 years old, I had a very bad accident and hurt my leg. The doctors at Markham Hospital knew I needed special care, so I was sent by ambulance with my Mom to SickKids. I stayed there for about a week while the doctors figured out the best way to help me. They had to decide between doing surgery with pins and wires or putting me in a body cast (spoiler alert – body casts are the worst!)

While I was there, I met so many kind and caring people — my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Camp, amazing nurses on the 5th floor, orthopedic techs, and my favourite physiotherapist, Heather. There were also special staff who helped my Mom and me through really scary moments. I even earned Bravery Beads that I still have today.

After I came home, I had a long one-year recovery and missed about 4 months of school. My family was very worried about what my life would look like after my accident. But because of SickKids, I can walk, run, do gym class, and I’m even playing field lacrosse!

I am so, so grateful to SickKids for helping me heal and for taking such good care of me and my family. They’ve helped my brothers and even kids from my school, too. That’s why I feel extra thankful and want to give back to a hospital that helps so many families like ours.

In my first 3 Lemonade Stand fundraisers, I’ve raised $5,491 thanks to so many generous and kind people. Last year alone, I raised $2,834! I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me.

Please help me make my 4th year my best one yet so I can give back to the hospital that gave me so much.
