Jazmin VS AVM

I'm Fundraising in Support of SickKids!

When Jazmin was just 12, she suffered a paediatric haemorrhagic stroke—an extremely rare and life-threatening event. It was nothing short of a miracle that she survived, something we will always be grateful for.

For 18 months, doctors waited for the swelling in her brain to subside so they could finally see the cause: an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation), a condition affecting only about 1% of the population. Until that moment, we had never heard of AVMs and suddenly found ourselves navigating a frightening and unfamiliar world.

Thankfully, Dr. Dirks and the neurosurgery team at SickKids Hospital in Toronto stepped in with extraordinary expertise and compassion. They helped us face brain surgery, countless tests, rehabilitation, and the reality of living with lasting deficits—making an overwhelming journey feel possible.

Supporting the work of this team means supporting families like ours who are facing the unimaginable. Their care changes—and saves—children’s lives 💙
