I'm Participating in Toronto Sporting Life 10K run for SickKids

I'm participating in Toronto Sporting Life 10K run on May 10th, 2026 and fundraising for SickKids. These donations will support the research of Dr. Bouffet and Dr. Tabori.

Dr. Eric Bouffet is a world-renowned pediatric neuro-oncologist and Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto, serving as the Garron Family Chair in Childhood Cancer Research and Head of the Neuro-Oncology Section at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada—one of the leading children’s hospitals in the world. He has dedicated his career to transforming the understanding and treatment of childhood brain tumors, leading innovative clinical trials and developing new therapeutic strategies (including long-term drug repurposing programs such as vinblastine for low-grade gliomas). Dr. Bouffet has also been a global leader in pediatric oncology: he is former President of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), now serves as its Advocacy Chair, chairs the Canadian Paediatric Brain Tumour Consortium, and contributes to international research committees such as the Children’s Oncology Group. His work not only advances scientific knowledge with hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and authorship of major textbooks, but also improves survival, quality of life, and global access to care for children with brain cancer—including efforts to build neuro-oncology programs in low- and middle-income countries. This combination of scientific excellence, clinical impact, and global commitment makes his work deeply worthy of donor support.

Dr. Uri Tabori is an internationally respected pediatric neuro-oncologist and clinician-scientist serving as Section Head of Neuro-Oncology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto and as a Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics, Medical Biophysics, and the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto.(medbio.utoronto.ca) He leads groundbreaking research into the biology, early detection, and treatment of childhood brain tumors, with a special emphasis on cancers driven by DNA replication repair deficiencies—a rare but devastating category of disease that often affects very young patients and is resistant to conventional therapies.(medbio.utoronto.ca) Dr. Tabori heads the International Replication Repair Deficiency Consortium (IRRDC), a global collaborative initiative spanning over 45 countries that’s advancing diagnosis, management, and international clinical trials for children with hypermutant cancers using innovative approaches such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and biomarker-guided therapies.(SickKids) His lab also pioneers research on the most common pediatric brain tumors, including low-grade gliomas, developing novel models, biomarkers, and targeted treatment strategies with the potential to dramatically improve outcomes.(SickKids) Dr. Tabori’s work not only expands scientific understanding of pediatric cancers but translates discoveries directly into clinical trials and personalized medicine, offering hope and tangible progress for children worldwide facing these life-threatening conditions—making support for his research a powerful investment in the future of childhood cancer care.(medbio.utoronto.ca)
