Fundraising in Support of SickKids!

This Black History Month, we are supporting work that uplifts children, celebrates identity, and helps create more equitable care for families in our community.

At SickKids, every child should feel seen, respected, and cared for in every part of their hospital experience. That is why we are raising funds for the Hair Equity Initiative, a thoughtful program that responds to an important gap in pediatric care by providing culturally appropriate hair care for Black and biracial patients.

The initiative is part of the Black Experience at Sick Kids, a hospital‑wide commitment to improving outcomes for Black children and youth, addressing health inequities, and creating spaces where families feel safe, understood, and supported.

Why Hair Equity Matters

Hair is deeply connected to culture, identity, and confidence. When a child is in hospital, having their hair cared for properly can make a meaningful difference in how they feel about themselves. Many standard hospital products do not meet the needs of textured hair, which can affect comfort and self‑esteem during an already difficult time. The Hair Equity Initiative ensures that Black and biracial patients receive care that honours who they are.

How Your Support Helps

Every gift contributes directly to items and training that make a real impact, including moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, wide‑tooth combs and other appropriate tools, and staff education on caring for textured hair in ways that respect cultural practices.

These are not extras. They are simple but essential supports that help children feel dignified, included, and ready to heal.

Thank You

Your generosity helps strengthen the Hair Equity Initiative and supports a future where every child at SickKids receives care that reflects their identity and their worth in mind, body, and spirit.
